How much does it cost to replace a water pump?
It depends almost entirely on your engine. The part is often modest. The labor swings widely depending on whether the pump is bolted to the front of the engine or buried behind the timing belt.

What's Actually Going On
On many vehicles the water pump is accessible from the front of the engine and the job is a few hours. On a timing belt driven pump, the belt has to come off to reach it, which is a much bigger job — and the right move is to do the timing belt, tensioner, and pump together while everything is apart, because doing them separately means paying that labor twice.
Coolant, a thermostat, and sometimes hoses or a gasket set go with the job. A shop that quotes you a water pump without mentioning coolant is not quoting you the whole job.
